We are pleased to announce that Jonathan Whiting will be taking on the role of General Director of Green Opera. After the success of award-winning productions of Jane Eyre and Testament at last year’s Grimeborn Festival at the Arcola, we are striving to widen our scope with more productions, concerts and outreach.
A long-time supporter of Green Opera (and original GO logo-designer!), Jonathan is a composer and writer. He often reviews and writes for Opera Now magazine, as well as co-hosting their bi-monthly podcast
He writes:
I’m beyond thrilled to take on the role of General Director at Green Opera (GO). In recent years, GO has established itself with bold reimaginings of both established works, such as Bluebeard’s Castle and La Voix Humaine, but also lesser known 20th century, with its award-winning Jane Eyre at the Arcola theatre last year. Diving into the intimate side of opera is rarely done, but GO not only excels at this but also uses this to open up these works to new eyes and ears.
As we look to the future, we strive to bring both the conventional and the unconventional to bigger and more diverse audiences. With some very exciting projects being planned, we can’t wait to show you what Green Opera has in store!
