Bluebeard’s Castle

Green Opera and Fireside Theatre collaborate on an environmentally-sustainable staging of Bartók’s chamber opera, Bluebeard’s Castle (performed in the original Hungarian).

Staged in the subterranean Vaults in Waterloo, the piece explores how women interact with male fantasies projected onto them in opera. Bluebeard becomes an artist obsessed with his muse, and the castle, his studio. This synthesis of art installation and theatre will inspire audiences and artists alike to engage with climate change and question the dominance of the male gaze.
